Rheinkraftwerk Neuhausen AG
Low-pressure run-of-river power station on the Rhine
Axpo AG, formerly NOK, acquired a 40% stake in Rheinkraftwerk Neuhausen (RKN) on 1 January 2003. Axpo AG's partners in RKN are EnAlpin Wallis AG with 56% and Neuhausen local authority with 4%.
The power station was built between 1948 and 1951 directly beside the Rhine Falls, Europe's largest waterfall, and extracts energy from the 23 m drop in it. It produces around 40 GWh of energy every year which is used to supply the industrial area of Neuhausen. The operational side of the plant is run by Rheinkraftwerk Reckingen, and responsibility for management rests with EnAlpin Wallis AG.
