Kraftwerk Reckingen AG
Low-pressure run-of-river power station on the Rhine
Reckingen power station was built by Lonza AG between 1938 and 1941 in order to ensure the supply of energy to its works on either side of the Rhine. It almost came to grief on 25 April 1945 shortly before the end of the way; the power station workers managed to thwart the German Army's plans to blow up the plant at the eleventh hour.
Nowadays, it produces 252 GWh of energy, which is shared equally between Germany and Switzerland. This reflects the split in share capital: 50% is held by EnBW, 30% by AEW Energie AG and 20% by Axpo AG. Axpo AG has seen to the operational running of the plant since 2003. The Kraftwerk Reckingen company is operates the Rheinkraftwerk Neuhausen facility on the Rhine.
