Inter-Regional Distribution Network
The inter-regional distribution network is generally operated at between 50 and 220 kV and ensures the supply of electricity throughout Axpo AG's entire supply area. Parts of this network are currently operated at 110 or 50 kV. Axpo AG is aiming to upgrade the existing 50 kV network to 110 kV operation over the course of the next 20 years.
Voltage is transformed from 220 to 110 (50) kV in twenty-three 220/110(50) kV substations spread throughout Axpo's entire supply area. Axpo AG also operates five 50/16 kV substations in the March/Glarus Land supply area.
The following line infrastructures are available for distributing electricity (construction status as at 30 September 2009):
| 110 kV | 1151 km of overhead lines 263 km of underground lines |
| 50 kV | 528 km of overhead lines 44 km of underground lines |
| 16 kV | 32 km of overhead lines 28 km of underground lines |
Axpo AG ensures operational network reliability for its network customers (especially cantonal and municipal utilities) at 110 or 50 kV level, or at 16 kV level for its end distributors in March/Glarus Land, which in turn ensure distribution at 16 and 0.4 kV levels. This is an important requirement for safeguarding the smooth supply of electricity to all end customers within the Axpo AG supply area, without any price discrimination.
