New Energies

Axpo AG is focusing its money on/backing new energies. Together with CKW and EGL, Axpo AG aims to be Switzerland’s leading producer of electricity from new energy sources.

Investment in new energy types focuses predominantly on biomass and small-scale hydroelectric plants, with geothermal energy also set to play a bigger role in the future. In contrast to wind and solar power, these energy sources are less dependent on weather influences, and therefore are able to supply vital base-load energy.

Axpo’s new energies business establishes and invests in selected companies and projects. This gives them usage rights for the ecological surplus and renewable energy. These rights can be used or sold on the international electricity and energy certificate trading market. While management, operational and corporate governance functions remain with the company in question, Axpo’s new energies arm works closely with each company. In addition to this, Axpo offers energy contracting that covers all services associated with power supply plants – from consultancy on design, construction, operation and maintenance right up to financing. Full responsibility for the plant is therefore placed in the hands of an expert.

The ‘new energies’ division of Axpo AG comprises the following companies:
